JAMMU, June 11: A detailed memorandum has been submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha by Ramesh Chander Mahajan, president of the Kashmiri Migrant Welfare Organization highlighting the urgent concerns of the displaced Kashmiri Hindu community and seeking swift intervention to address their long-standing issues.
Representing the sentiments of over seven lakh displaced Kashmiri Hindus, the memorandum appeals to both the Centre and the Union Territory administration for immediate action on 20 key demands aimed at ensuring their rights, welfare, and dignified resettlement.
Among the top demands are the enhancement of the monthly cash relief from Rs 7,000 per person, provision of free medical aid, and the launch of a 15,000-post special recruitment drive for migrant youth under the PM Package 2025. The community has also sought 35,000 Government jobs with a 40% reservation for migrants and non-migrants alike.
A strong appeal has been made for subsidized loans for over-aged unemployed migrants, reservation in educational institutions, and implementation of the Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Bill to officially recognize the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus.
The memorandum also pushes for minority status to the community, voting rights in local body elections across migrant zones in Jammu, Udhampur, and Delhi, and legislative representation through reservation of Assembly and Parliamentary seats.
Other significant points include the restoration of damaged or lost properties since 1990, passage of the Hindu Shrines and Temples Protection Bill, implementation of pending ex-gratia relief, and extension of social welfare schemes.
The memorandum ends with a call for the formation of a dedicated Welfare Advisory Board and a separate budget for improving migrant camps.
Mahajan expressed hope that the Government would take decisive action to safeguard the future of displaced Kashmiri Hindus and ensure justice, dignity, and equal rights for the community.
