KP intellectuals, ex bureaucrats urge Govt to settle issues of community

JAMMU, Jan 6: Showing their serious concern over non seriousness of the successive Governments on the rehabilitation issue of displaced Kashmiri Pandits who are entering in the 34th year of exile, the KP intellectuals, former IAS and IPS officers from the community as well as activists of various social and voluntary organizations have decided to form an umbrella organization to chalk out short and long term agenda of the community.
The meeting, which was organized by the representatives of some voluntary and social organizations here has appealed the Central Government frame a road map on the rehabilitation of Displaced Pandits and settling their long standing issues including constitution of a statutory body for protection of their religious places and shrines in Valley.
The meeting was chaired by former Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Kuldeep Khuda and it among others was attended by former VC Central University, Ashok Aima, Vinod Kaul, former Commissioner Secretary, Prof. B L Zutshi, president Hindu Education Society Kashmir (HESK), Prof Veena Pandita, ex chairperson of JKBOSE, Advocate Kashmiri Lal, Prof O N Koul, Ajay Bharti, ex MLC, Hira Lal Bhat a socio-political activist Anil Bhat, Bureau Chief PTI, B K Wantoo, Kuldeep Raina, president Manzgam Prabahndak Committee, Ashok Braroo, a senior KP leader, I K Raina, Prof Virrender Rawal general secretary, HESK, Shadi Lal Koul of Prem Nath Bhat Trust, Sahil Kumar Bhat, Moti Lal Bhat, Daleep Pandita, president, Baderkali Asthapan, Chand Ji Bhat, Chuni Lal Raina, Bushan Lal Bhat and Ashok Ji Batergam (all social activists).
The rehabilitation, PM package employees, shrines and temples, encroachments and Distress Sale issues dominated the deliberations during the meeting. It was decided that the umbrella will be made broad based by giving space to all likeminded opinion makers, intellectuals, former bureaucrats of the community and social activists to form a long term and short term agenda to be presented before the Government with main thrust on rehabilitation issue by keeping in view the aspirations of the community and issue of PM package employees which needs to be settled on humanitarian basis.
While addressing the meeting, Kuldeep Khuda stressed on having a conciliatory approach in settlement of the issues and said that the Government is fully aware about the issues of displaced Pandits and the circumstances which led to the mass exodus of the community. He said need of the hour is that community should join hands to find a solution to their long standing issue of rehabilitation and other problems.
Vinod Koul was for formation of long time and short time agenda on various issues while Prof Ashok Aima stressed on pooling of resources for establishing educational institutions of excellence.
