JAMMU, Nov 11: Family members of a 55-year-old individual, who was burnt alive near Kotli Mian Fateh area on the Ring Road yesterday, staged a demonstration in RS Pura area today, seeking justice and compensation to his legal heirs.
Carrying the body of former Irrigation Department employee Puran Chand from Government Medical College in a corpse van, his family members and locality residents gathered at Daljeet Chowk, RS Pura and stopped the vehicular movement for hours.
They were demanding stern punishment for the accused named by the deceased prior to his death and detained by the police for questioning in connection with the crime.
Among the protestors was the young daughter of the deceased, who claimed her papa was killed under a well-planned conspiracy by three people.
She sought death sentence to the accused and proper compensation to her family so that her education and other related expenses are taken care of.
The other family members of the deceased individual questioned the role of Irrigation Department officials, who they claimed, have not reached out the aggrieved family members yet. They too demanded proper compensation and job for the legal heirs of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the protest was called off after authorities assured stern action against the accused.
