SRINAGAR, Nov 23: Kothibagh Middle School has become the first Government institution in Kashmir to adopt the “Dream School” model, introducing facilities never before seen in the Government sector.
Long associated with limited facilities, the school is now leading the way in transformation, with teachers saying that the shift is changing public perception and generating renewed interest from parents.
The upgraded building now features smart classrooms, air-conditioned learning spaces and a fully equipped robotics lab in a major push toward technology-driven learning.
“The earlier absence of such facilities had limited the teaching and learning process,” a staff member told Excelsior.
“With digital boards, STEM labs and child-friendly spaces in place, we are now witnessing a rise in inquiries from parents.”
Teachers said the move toward technology-driven and activity-based teaching has significantly improved student engagement. Humaira Wani, a teacher, said the school has seen a marked shift in how families perceive Government education.
“People believed Government schools lacked facilities. That perception is changing. Activity-based teaching has replaced older methods, and students are responding better,” she said.
Parents also expressed satisfaction over the new setup.
“This school offers digital boards, meals and safe play areas. Admissions are free, and we encourage other parents to consider it,” said Shafiqa, a parent.
Students echoed these sentiments. “The school now provides access to subjects and tools not available earlier,” said Zainish, a Class 6 student.
“I like this school,” added Zooni, a Class 1 student who recently moved from the United States.
According to the administration, the Dream School model aims to support children from economically weaker families by offering all services free of cost.
Sheikh Showkat Ali, Head of the Dream School, said support from the Faizal and Shabana Foundation played a key role in establishing the new facilities, including the robotics lab and upgraded infrastructure “not found in most Government schools.”
“This school offers free admissions, free textbooks, free uniforms and free day meals, reducing the financial load on families. Parents pay nothing for their child’s schooling,” he said.
