BEED, Oct 18: Members of the tribal Koli community from the Manjelgaon constituency in Beed district have entered the sixth day of their hunger strike, pressing for the issuance of caste certificates.
Dozens of individuals representing the Tokre Koli, Mahadev Koli, Malhar Koli, and Dhor Koli communities are participating in the protest to highlight what they describe as their constitutional and long-pending demand.
According to sources familiar with the situation, no administrative officer has visited the protest site despite the hunger strike entering its sixth day.
The protesters have declared their intention to continue their agitation until their community members receive regular caste certificates through proper government procedures.
The ongoing protest witnessed political intervention as Mohan Jagtap, a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), visited Manjelgaon to assess the situation. Jagtap met the protesters at the hunger strike venue and later held detailed discussions with the Sub-Divisional Officer of Manjelgaon and the District Collector of Beed, stressing the need for an early resolution.
Jagtap urged the district administration to take immediate action on what he termed a sensitive issue and to initiate constructive dialogue with the hunger strikers to prevent any further escalation. He noted that the Koli community members have been conducting their agitation peacefully to secure legitimate rights and appealed to the government to address their demands and ensure justice.
