KKS’s concern over smuggling of wood, encroachment of land

JAMMU, Jan 3: Kissan Kalian Samiti (KKS) district Kathua has submitted a memorandum to Lt Governor J&K demanding immediate action against the smuggling of wood from the forest area in the Kathua district by forest smugglers who cut the trees illegally creating a huge loss to State exchequer as well as threaten the ecology.
In the memorandum submitted by Jaidev Singh, president, Kissan Kalyan Sangh, along with Prem Chand ex Sarpanch to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha through his Secretary here they demanded immediate action against such elements. The memorandum said that besides, the trees in forest, the fruit bearing trees are also being cut illegally by such elements and sold to earn huge money.
They also demanded action against the land encroachers who have grabbed land of Khads, State land and land of ponds and other water bodies in the district affecting the flora and fauna in the area.
The memorandum said that though concerned authorities in the district were also apprised about the same but no action has been taken till date with the result the felling of trees goes unabated. The memorandum further demanded that the concerned Department be given directives to take quick action and check the felling of trees illegally in the district.
