JAMMU, Aug 4: In a grand ceremony, Kiran Wattal, vice president of the Gymnastic Federation of India and former Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, convener Vishwa Kashmir Samaj , convener Mata Kheer Bhawani Yatra Welfare Society ,president Amar Nath Yatra Welfare Society ,vice chairman Tourism Federation of Jammu, president J&K Civil Society was conferred the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Rashtriya Seva Medal by the Gandhi Global Family, Jammu & Kashmir today.
This esteemed award was given to Wattal in recognition of his outstanding contributions to humanitarian service, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the values of non-violence, peace building and the Gandhian philosophy.
Wattal’s dedication to public service spans over four decades, with notable achievements in various capacities. As Commissioner of JMC, he has been instrumental in transforming the city’s infrastructure and services. Some of his key accomplishments include construction of 336 flats at Sunjwan under the BSUP scheme, providing shelter to homeless families. Establishment of a Municipal Helpline for prompt redressal of public grievances, launching the “Cleanup Jammu” scheme, ensuring proper sanitation during important occasions and odd hours, setting up a Municipal Animal Care Centre and a dog sterilization and care centre for stray animals are his other achievements.
