The recent unfortuante incidents involving the killing of some people on Batote-Kishtwar Highway and other roads in the area should wake up the Government to the tragedy. There is urgent need to build roads in this area under an action plan. The plan should encompass construction and maintenance of roads on a regular basis. Otherwise there is no body to maintain these roads regularly. These road turn deathtraps during rains and snow. People get cut off from rest of the country for days together. The snapped link brings numerous hardships to people. There is also need to find a way to deal with avlanches and shooting stones. Recently in an urgly incident a father and his daughter got trapped under a big builder causing their instant death.
The interior roads within the Kishtwar district is also no good. People have been crying day in and day out about the deplorable condition of roads but no one take cognizance of the matter. The elected representatives have as usual shown their apathatic attitude towards these roads.
The people should pressurise these politicians to pursue road construction activity on priority basis.
