JAMMU, Mar 29: One individual from Haryana, who was arrested along with four persons in connection with a fake job racket and alleged kidnapping of two youths from Jammu, died after complaining of severe stomach pain in the custody.

The deceased has been identified as Parveen Kumar, son of Shugan Chand, a resident of Panipat, Haryana.
A police official said he was arrested from Kolkata in connection with FIR number 67/2026 registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar under sections 318(4), 127(3), and 308(2) of the BNS.
He said Kumar was on police remand when he complained of severe stomach pain earlier in the day and was immediately shifted to Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, where doctors declared him dead.
The police official said that Kumar, along with four co-accused, had been brought to Gandhi Nagar Police Station after obtaining transit remand on March 25 and were to remain in custody till March 30, 2026.
He added that regular medical examinations of the accused were being conducted as per laid down norms and all necessary precautions were being taken during custody.
“On Sunday as well, Kumar underwent a routine medical check-up at Police Hospital Jammu. However, after the examination, he complained of severe stomach pain and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died,” he said.
The police official said that a board of doctors has been constituted to conduct the post-mortem examination.
According to him, the family members of the deceased have also been informed, and the post-mortem will be conducted in their presence as well as that of an Executive Magistrate.
The official further stated that all CCTV footage and other relevant evidence have been preserved, and inquest proceedings have been initiated.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate Jammu has been requested to initiate a magisterial inquiry into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of death.
