JAMMU, Oct 16: In a significant step towards realizing the vision of Digital India, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP senior leader, Gulam Ali Khatana inaugurated state-of-the-art computer labs at Government High School, Bathindi, and at the Girls’ Gujjar & Bakerwal Hostel, Shahidi Chowk, here, today.
These initiatives aim to empower students with modern digital skills, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Addressing the gathering, MP Khatana highlighted the transformative impact of Digital India on education, governance, and everyday life. He stated that if Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had not launched this initiative, millions of students would have faced severe disruptions during crises such as COVID-19 and other pandemics. Digital platforms have enabled continuous learning, online classes, and access to educational resources even when physical classrooms were inaccessible.
He emphasized that Digital India is not just about technology, but about empowering citizens. By integrating digital tools into schools, hostels, and community spaces, students from all backgrounds gain access to knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, and prepare for competitive careers. This initiative bridges the urban-rural divide and ensures that talent is not limited by geography.
Khatana also stressed that while proficiency in computers and online resources equips students for academics, entrepreneurship, innovation, and employment in emerging sectors, it is equally important to remain cautious of the negative effects of excessive digital usage and engage with technology responsibly.
Khatana further spoke about the future vision of Digital India, emphasizing the integration of e-learning, digital governance, and online citizen services into everyday life. By expanding digital infrastructure across schools, hostels, and public spaces, the Government is creating an ecosystem where every citizen has access to information, education, and opportunities for progress. Through these initiatives, youth are empowered, educational gaps are bridged, and students are prepared to compete on a global stage while remaining socially responsible.
