However, two of the escapees—both Pakistani nationals—had been arrested by STF Ambala a day after the incident on February 17 from Ambala Cantt Railway Station.
Police sources said Gugga’s mother, a resident of Dablehar area in RS Pura, who initially remained untraceable for several days after the incident and was believed to be with her son, has now appeared before the local police and recorded her statement.
She has reportedly told the investigators that she had no role in her son’s escape and claimed that he fled on his own. She has also stated that she has no information about his present whereabouts.
Besides Gugga’s mother, the two Pakistani nationals arrested in the case—Ahsan Anwar of Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan, and Mohammad Sanaullah of Basti Jawewala, Tehsil Dinpur, District Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Pakistan—who fled with Guga and were later arrested from Ambala Cantt Railway Station, are also being investigated to find the current whereabouts of Gugga, sources said.
They said another accused, Rahul Kumar alias Lattu of Suchetgarh in RS Pura, who was arrested on February 18 for his alleged involvement in arranging weapons for Gugga inside the observation home and providing logistical support for the escape, is also being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
Sources further said that police are also questioning several other persons who may have knowledge about Gugga’s whereabouts. However, sources said that his current location remains unknown.
Further, six policemen who were suspended following the escape are also being examined. However, an FIR against them is yet to be registered, sources added.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, authorities have increased the deployment inside the observation home from 6 to 10 police personnel to prevent any further incidents.
