KATHUA, Dec 17:- In a major breakthrough against the menace of drug trafficking, Kathua police, have attached the immovable property of a notorious drug peddler under NDPS Act.
The police got confirmation about attachment of property of drug peddler namely Javed Akther, son of Mohammed Latief of Lohai Malhar in Kathua district by the Competent Authority, SAFEMA, (Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act), a spokesman of the police said.
He said this decisive action marks a crucial step in dismantling the financial backbone of organised drug networks operating in the region.
He said following a detailed and meticulous financial investigation by team of Police Station (PS), Billawar led by SHO Billawar Inspector, Zaheer Mushtaq under the close supervision of SP Upper Kathua, Aumir Iqbal and SDPO Billawar, Neeraj Kumar and overall supervision of SSP Kathua, Mohita Sharma the immovable property in the form of a single-storey residential house, valued at Rs12,26,303/-, belonging to notorious drug peddler, namely Javed Akhter, son of Mohammad Latief, resident of Lohai Malhar, at present Dher Phinter, tehsil Billawar, district Kathua, was provisionally attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The case was subsequently placed before SAFEMA for confirmation, which has now been duly upheld, thereby giving legal finality to the attachment proceedings, spokesman added.
He said the accused is a habitual offender and was also booked under PIT NDPS. He has been found involved in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Billawar, under FIR No. 77/2020 U/S 8/21/22, FIR No. 165/2022 U/S 8/21/22, FIR No. 08/2023 U/S 8/21/22, and FIR No. 77/2023 U/S 8/21/22 which were registered under NDPS Act.
Spokesman said the attachment of property acquired through proceeds of narcotic crimes is a powerful deterrent and reflects the firm resolve of J&K Police to not only prosecute offenders but also to deprive them of the illegal wealth generated through drug trafficking.
