KATHUA, Nov 22: In its continued drive against encroachments over the State land, path ways & public lanes, district administration launched an intensive anti encroachment drive in various places in Kathua town and removed many structures, walls, iron stairs, hoardings, which were constructed by encroachers over the roads and foot-paths.
At many places fruit & vegetables vendors were also removed from the pathways, streets enabling hassle free movement of the pedestrians in the town as they are occupying the main roads and streets. The areas in which anti encroachment drive was undertaken are Shaheedi Chowk, Mukherji Chowk, Main Bazar, Parliwand, Jarie Chowk and College Road, Court Road, while removing the encroachment drive around 20 pucca and tins structures were removed which were creating a nuisance.
During the drive a long wall about 100 feet erected illegally over a nallah opposite Gujjar Hostel Kathua was also demolished in the area. Similarly, the scrap dealer who had dumped scraps on the main road was removed and dumped scrap including his weighing machine was also seized during the drive. Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Rohit Khajuria was leading the team. He was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commis-sioner, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council and other enforcement staff of Municipality. Simultaneously, SDM Hiranagar along-with Tehsildar Marheen and Hiranagar also launched demolition drive in Sub Division Hiranagar, where State land including land belonging to PWD Department was retrieved and illegal structures erected on the State land was demolished on spot.
