JAMMU, Apr 6: Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti was celebrated with enthusiasm and religious fervor here today by the Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi Kashyap, Kahar, Nishad, Bhoi Samanvay Samiti under the chairmanship of Darshan Kumar Mehra, State Coordinator, in collaboration with Kashyap Sabha (Regd.) Moti Bazar Jammu, J&K President Murari Lal Balgotra and other Sabha members.
MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi attended the function as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, he appreciated the efforts of Kashyap Sabha in working for the welfare and upliftment of the community and thanked the organisers for inviting him.
He announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund for completion of pending development works of the Sabha.
During the programme, members of the Sabha urged the MLA to allot land in the city for installation of a statue of Maharishi Kashyap and also demanded naming of a chowk after the revered saint.
The Sabha also felicitated achievers from the community for their contributions in various fields.
The members unanimously resolved to celebrate Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti every year with full enthusiasm across Jammu and Kashmir.
They also stressed the need to prioritise education and healthcare for the younger generation and took a pledge to make the Kashyap community drug-free.
A community langar was organised at the conclusion of the programme.
