JAMMU, Sept 29: A new book of Kashmiri Primer in Devnagri script authored by Arvind Shah and Bushan Lal Kaul “Deep” was released at Sanskriti Bhawan Roop Nagar near here.
Prof Mohan Lal Sar, a prominent linguist and Kashmiri language expert has provided his advice as a consultant.
Speaking to the galaxy of the gathering, on the occasion, the chief guest Dr. K L Chowdhury, a renowned author, critic, short story writer and poet said that the spoken language has become more important than the text language nowadays. While appreciating the efforts of the authors, he cited many examples of patients conveying their sickness effectively through Kashmiri language. He gave examples of such expressions which cannot be conveyed in any other language.
Vijay Bakaya, former Chief Secretary of the State, who presided over the function said that mother tongue is better learnt through word of mouth and by communicating in mother tongue. He applauded the effort and further added that such small books with due illustrations, carrying the basics of the language are more effective in learning the language than the big descriptive books.
Ramesh Hangloo, Director Sharda Radio said about the important role of Kashmiri language, more so after the displacement of the community from the Valley.
Dr. R L Bhat, P N Shad and Bal Krishen Sanyasi also spoke on the occasion and shared their rich experiences about the propagation of Kashmiri language.
Earlier Arvind Shah spoke about the Kashmiri primer. The author gave an effective presentation on the book.
The book expresses the phonetic sounds of the language through illustrations. The illustrations are eye catching and picked up from the daily life surroundings which one, relates to, easily. The book carries Hindi and English translations of the Kashmiri words. In addition to the main objective of addressing the phonetics of Kashmiri language simple vocabulary lessons are given. There are also some communication sentences of simple and day to day nature. The book is based on the scholastic work done by O N Kaul and Roop Krishen Bhat, the eminent internationally acclaimed linguists and research scholars of Kashmiri language.
Moti Kaul, Vijay Kashkari, Badri Nath Abhilash, Naina Saproo, Vijay Wali, Bal Krishan Sanyasi, Aryan Ramesh, R K Pandita and many more community intellectuals attended the function.
The author Arvind shah is a writer (ELT) poet and translator. He has worked in various organizations for the implementation of UNICEP educational programmes. He writes for S.Chand, Prabhat and Dremland publications. The children’s book internationally acclaimed. The translation of the poems of former Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee is one of his best sellers. B L Kaul “Deep” is a lyricist and social activist. Prof M L Sar is Kashmiri language research scholar and a linguist of international repute.
