Srinagar, Feb 2: In a novel way of protest, the artists and freelance filmmakers associated with Door Darshan Kendra (DKK) Srinagar and DD Kashir today highlighted their ‘pathetic’ condition by staging ‘Nukad Play’ or street play here in city Centre.
Dozens of senior and junior artists, freelance filmmakers, directors and producers assembled at Press Enclave here and set a stage for the ‘Nukad Play’. They said from last four years they have been persuading almost all the concerned quarters in for rejunivating the DD Kashir.
“But unfortunately every effort of ours at the end gets sabotaged by some hidden lobby. Finally we have decided to come on the roads through ‘Nukad Play’ to highlight the pathetic condition of art, artists and the channel which will be exhibited in every corner of the valley in coming days,” said Zameer Ashai, the chairman of Television Professionals United Forum (TPUF).
The street play by the agitating artists dressed in traditional Kashmiri attire mocked at the Government and its policies with regards to DDK Srinagar and DD Kashir. The street play also invited the attention of large number of people in the Press Enclave.
Ashai said the TPUF has several demands which include clearing backlog against the programmes dished out to the freelancers from time to time by DDK Srinagar since 2008 under in house category on priority basis and usual budget allocation to DDK Srinagar, which has been slashed down by 90%.
