Srinagar, Jan 23: Director General of Police R R Swain today said that youth of Kashmir don’t support the terrorists indicating normalisation of the situation in the region.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Rural Outreach event, a part of the Public Grievance Redressal Programme, held at Awantipora area of Pulwama district, Swain said that the security landscape has witnessed commendable control, attributing the success to effective law enforcement.
“Despite the overall stability, the persistent challenge is posed by a handful of terrorists infiltrating from Pakistan, attempting to disrupt the hard-earned peace in the region,” he said.
However, the DGP expressed a distinct perspective, highlighting that the local youth are not aligned with these disruptive elements. “Our youth are not involved with them. While a few individuals may support these terrorists, the majority stand against them, indicating that the situation is under control,” he said.
The people in this outreach initiative brought forward various issues, ranging from instances of cheating to land grabbing.

The DGP assured swift and lawful action, affirming the police’s commitment to addressing concerns beyond the realm of traditional security.
“This is the first grievance redressal program in South Kashmir. Previously, we held such programs in Srinagar and Jammu, and this is the first time we are extending it beyond these districts,” he said.
Swain said that a large numbers of people come to him with various issues, including domestic violence and land-related problems. “There is a wide range of problems, some of which fall under civil and some under criminal issues. People often cannot distinguish between crime and civil matters, desiring the resolution of their problems. We strive to help them honestly within the framework of the law,” he said.
He highlighted the collaborative efforts to foster peace in the Rajouri-Poonch belt, underscoring the dedication to creating a peaceful environment in the region.
“We believe that there will be a time when Jammu and Kashmir will be peaceful, and people will capture those attempting to disrupt the peace, handing them over to us,” he said, expressing optimism about the region’s future.
The DGP welcomed all those present at the Public Grievance Redressal programme. He expressed his happiness in meeting the people once again, with the primary objective of understanding their issues and grievances pertaining to police services. This includes complaints, investigations, and other aspects of police services.
Swain assured a timely response and redressal to each grievance raised and further emphasizing that the programme is solely meant for addressing public concerns related to police services. It is not for recruitment purposes or general transfers, he added.
The programme was attended by more than 500 individuals, including men, women, and the elderly, who came forth to share their grievances and concerns. The DGP J&K listened attentively to people. On-the-spot directions were issued in several cases, ensuring prompt redressal of the concerns raised by the attendees.
Before the Grievances Redressal Programme, the DGP laid floral wreath at the Martyrs Memorial.
