Srinagar, Oct 1: Stressing that there is no place for violence in a “new India,” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief spokesperson Altaf Thakur today said J&K has “almost become terror-free,” particularly after 2019 when “terrorists were hit hard and their ecosystem dismantled.”
Speaking to reporters here, Thakur welcomed the attachment of the head office of the banned Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) at Hyderpora, saying all factions of the Hurriyat had “brought nothing but destruction to Kashmir.”
He accused the separatist groups of running Pakistan’s agenda and fostering terrorism in the Union Territory.
“All of these groups were running the agenda of Pakistan and terrorists in J&K. But after 2019, the situation changed; terrorists were hit hard and that was the last nail in the coffin of terrorism; now J&K is almost terror-free,” he said.
Thakur alleged that Hurriyat groups — “be it TeH or Awami Action Committee” — were responsible for “creating terrorists” in J&K.
“Be it stone-pelting, disrupting peace and causing destruction, hartals — that was their job,” he said, adding that these groups had “ruined Kashmir and set the region back 100 years.”
“Banning and attaching their properties is a welcome step. The source of terrorism must be eradicated completely,” he said.
Altaf said banning the Hurriyat and cutting off their “illegal funding” had changed the ground situation in Kashmir, which was now witnessing “peace and development.”
“The left-out groups will also face strict action; their property should also be banned and they should be sent to jail. This is the new India and there is no place for violence,” he asserted.
