Kashi Vidvat Parishad meet focuses on revival of Indian knowledge tradition

JAMMU, Apr 6: Emphasising that the roots of Indian culture lie in ancient texts like the Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas, Padma Shri Prof Vishwamurti Shastri today stated that these traditions need to be made relevant in the present era.
He was speaking during the monthly meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Kashi Vidvat Parishad, which he presided over as its President and Founder.
Prof Shastri highlighted that Sanskrit is not merely a language but the foundation of Indian knowledge and science.
He stressed the need to simplify and popularise Sanskrit so that it becomes accessible to the common people.
General Secretary Dr Vijendra Shastri presented a report on the Parishad’s activities over the past month and shared details of upcoming programmes.
He said the organisation had conducted lectures, workshops and seminars at various places, drawing participation from students and researchers.
He also announced that a national seminar on “Indian Knowledge Tradition” will be organised soon.
Several members, including Prof Ramanika Jalali, Prof Nalini Kohli, Prof Anita Soodan, Prof Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Prof Sunita Soodan and Prof Ram Bahadur Shukla, stressed the need to integrate Indian philosophy, linguistics and cultural studies into the modern education system.
They also called for innovative teaching methods to generate interest in Sanskrit among students.
The members of the Executive Body, including Shakti Dutt, Dr Sandhya Rani, and Dr Bhushan Kumar Shastri suggested forming local committees and strengthening coordination with social organisations to implement the Parishad’s plans.
They also recommended launching campaigns in rural areas to promote Sanskrit and Indian culture.
Dr Vishal Sharma, Uday Bhaskar and Dr Harish Kumar Shastri emphasised the use of digital and print media to expand outreach and proposed starting an official journal and e-newsletter.
The need to involve youth through membership drives and to strengthen collaboration with universities and research institutions was also highlighted by Dr Shubh Kumar Raina, Dr Mamta Sharma and Vachaspati Shastri.
Senior members appreciated the Parishad’s work and called for more awareness programmes to connect with different sections of society, especially students and young people.
