*Fair elections backbone of democracy: PCC chief

JAMMU, Nov 8: As part of the nationwide campaign of the Congress Party led by LOP Rahul Gandhi, the J&K PCC president Tariq Hameed Karra flagged off the vehicle carrying signatures against “Vote Chori” from Jammu and Kashmir to AICC New Delhi, from here today.
Flanked by senior leaders of the party, Karra flagged off a vehicle from PCC office Jammu, carrying signatures collected from all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi to be submitted to AICC, as part of the call of LOP Rahul Gandhi for signature campaign against “Vote Chori”. The signatures collected during the nationwide campaign against “Vote Chori” shall be submitted to the President of India by the AICC.
Over two lakh signatures from Kashmir and Jammu province were collected in the campaign of the party during the period, despite floods situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The campaign against numerous illegalities and irregularities in the voter lists and the conduct of the elections, as investigated and exposed by Rahul Gandhi, was carried out in the country for a free, fair and transparent election process right from voter lists for urging the President of India for necessary action.
Addressing the gathering Karra referred to numerous illegalities and irregularities exposed by Rahul Gandhi right from voter list to the conduct of elections and said that a free, fair and transparent election process is the backbone of democracy. Vote is the most precious right in a democracy and the free, fair and transparent elections are the backbone of the democracy without which it can’t survive.
He cautioned the party workers against attempts to manipulate the voter list and the various stages of elections, which is very dangerous. Every citizen has to be awared and awakened to safe guard their precious right. He appreciated the efforts of the party cadres for carrying out this important campaign, Inspite of worst rain & flood situation, during the period. And collected over two lakh signatures from all parts.
A team of Congress Seva Dal led by its Chairman Vijay Sharma was handed over bundles of signatures to be deposited at AICC.
Prominent among those present include Raman Bhalla (Working president) , Mula Ram, Th Balwan Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Th Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Yash Pal Kundal, Indu Pawar, Manmohan Singh and others.
