SRINAGAR, Dec 10: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hamid Karra today dismissed speculation about the possibility of Congress joining the Omar Abdullah-led Government.
Addressing the rumours, Karra said he has no discussions regarding such a move. “As PCC chief, I have not had any contact with anyone about this,” he clarified when asked about the speculations.
On the issue of Rohingya Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir, Karra expressed deep concern over what he described as the targeting of Indian Muslims under the guise of addressing the Rohingya issue.

“Look, as far as the Rohingyas are concerned, there is an international convention with a clear-cut policy. Secondly, we are concerned that under the guise of Rohingyas, Indian Muslims are being targeted. My concern is for the Muslims of India-that they should not be subjugated,” he said.

Karra directly blamed the BJP and RSS, alleging they are attempting to target legitimate Indian citizens by using the Rohingya issue as a pretext. “That is a bigger concern. As far as the State is concerned, under international conventions, their human needs-day-to-day necessities-must be met. To stop that amounts to a criminal act,” he said.
Karra said a caste survey is needed to give proportionate reservation to various underprivileged sections of the society.
“We believe that reservation distribution should be on the basis of justice but for that it is necessary to have a caste census,” Karra said.
He was responding to questions about protests by some aspirants against the high quota of reservations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Currently, only 30 per cent of seats in the Union Territory are open to merit candidates, while the rest are reserved for various categories.
“Let the caste census happen and then we will sit and decide what is to be done in the coming days. However, I fail to understand why the Government of India is delaying the caste census,” Karra said.
