Srinagar, Sept 1: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra today demanded an immediate and comprehensive relief package for the flood-hit Jammu division.
In a post on ‘X’, Karra also sought a high-level inquiry into the “lapses” that, he said, led to the loss of human lives and property at Katra and Chashoti.
“As the Hon’ble Home Minister visits Jammu to evaluate the catastrophic losses suffered by our people, the Indian National Congress unequivocally demands an immediate, comprehensive, and well-funded relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction package to support the affected communities and rebuild their lives with dignity,” he wrote.
Furthermore, he demanded: “we strongly urge the establishment of an independent, high level inquiry to thoroughly investigate the systemic lapses and negligence that led to the heartwrenching tragedies at Vaishno Devi and Chashoti.”
Karra said these disasters have shaken the nation, and accountability must be ensured to deliver justice to the victims and their families.
“The Government must act swiftly to implement robust preventive measures to safeguard lives and prevent such devastating incidents in the future.”
Meanwhile, while chairing a meeting of Coordinators and District presidents of Kashmir division here, Karra reiterated Congress party’s commitment to restore Statehood, dignity, and honour of J&K.
Karra said the Congress will ensure justice to people, who, he alleged, have been “pushed towards darkness in every respect by the BJP Govt at Centre.”
The meeting finalized upcoming programs across the Kashmir region under the movement ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’ for restoration of complete statehood to J&K, to be taken down to block and village levels.
