Srinagar, Sept 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra today accused the administration of a major security and protocol lapse during the visit of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Syed Nasir Hussain to Srinagar, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is using central agencies to destabilize governments across the country.

Addressing reporters in Srinagar, JKPCC president Tariq Karra said Dr. Hussain, who is also in charge of J&K affairs of the Congress was not extended the official protocol due to him.
“For the first time, a person of his stature was denied a vehicle. Only a single PSO was sent to the airport without any transport arrangement. Our office even spoke to the concerned officers, who stated on record that MPs are not provided vehicles. Yet, BJP MPs and leaders enjoy government cars and vehicles when they visit,” Karra said.
Calling it a “serious lapse,” Karra said the party will raise the issue with both the Union Government and the J&K administration. “This shows either a lack of application of mind or deliberate negligence. It is a matter of concern for us, and those responsible must be dealt with under rules,” he added.
Dr. Hussain, who was in Srinagar to launch the AICC’s nationwide campaign ‘My Vote, My Right’, held a two-and-a-half-hour interactive session with district coordinators and presidents of the party. He said the campaign will be expanded across Jammu and Kashmir to highlight the denial of democratic, political, and human rights to the people of the Union Territory. “In the same way that we ran My State, My Right, we are now running My Vote, My Right across India. But the question is why, even after 75 years, do we need to raise these slogans again? The answer is that the government is misusing agencies like the CBI, ED, and IT not to fight corruption but to weaken opposition parties,” Hussain said.
He accused the BJP of orchestrating defections and toppling governments by targeting MLAs with investigations. “The Karnataka government fell after 16 MLAs were pressurised with ED and IT summons. Similar tactics were used in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Bihar. BJP is not winning because of development but by misusing institutions,” Hussain said.
Criticizing the Modi government’s promises, he said slogans like “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” remain hollow. “No new jobs were created, farmers’ incomes did not double, smart cities were not built, per capita income has not risen, industrial and agricultural production have not increased, and exports and investments have not come. Targets keep shifting, from 2022 to 2047, but nothing changes,” he remarked.
The Congress leader said the people of J&K have been denied adequate compensation for losses, claiming that the relief of Rs 209 crore is meager compared to the estimated Rs 2,500 crore in damages. “This is a joke with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We demand immediate and fair compensation,” Hussain said.
