Kashmir valley was a prime destination for Bollywood filmmakers upto 1980s. However, the region with its stunning mountain peaks, green meadows and gushing water was shunned by the film industry after the insurgency picked its pace in 1990s.
With improvement in security situation and a decline in militancy, Bollywood is gradually returning to Kashmir. There has been a marginal increase in the number of films shot over the past four years.Recent films shot in Kashmir include Ayan Mukherji’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani starting Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.
