LEH, July 2: In a major organisational development ahead of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh general elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ladakh has unanimously elected Tashi Gyalson Kachu as the new UT president. He succeeds Phuntsog Stanzin, who held the post until now.
The election process was conducted under the supervision of BJP national secretary and Central Observer Om Prakash Dhankar.

The announcement was made during a function attended by key party leaders including CEC LAHDC Leh Tashi Gyalson, former Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, outgoing president Phuntsog Stanzin, BJP general secretary Ashok Koul, Executive Councillors, Returning Officer PT Kunzang, and other senior office bearers and executive members of BJP Ladakh.
In his acceptance speech, Kachu expressed gratitude to the party cadre and national leadership for their faith in him.
“I thank every committed karyakarta of BJP Ladakh for electing me unopposed. I am deeply honoured by the trust placed in me by J P Nadda, national president, Tarun Chugh, ji, national general secretary and Prabhari for Ladakh and Ashok Koul, UT General Secretary (Organisation) for J&K and Ladakh,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of his predecessor, stating, “I sincerely thank Shri Phuntsog Stanzin and the entire BJP Ladakh team for their support. I commit to work with full dedication to strengthen the party and contribute to the overall progress of Ladakh. Together, we will strive for a brighter and stronger future.”
With the LAHDC elections drawing closer, Kachu’s unopposed election is seen as a move to consolidate the party’s leadership and grassroots coordination in the region.
