JAMMU, Nov 27: The Civic Safai Karamcharis (SKCs) of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today suspended their ‘Kaam Choro Hartal’ after the intervention of the authorities concerned.
In a statement, JMC Commissioner, Dr Devansh Yadav said that he along with Commissioner Secretary HUDD today met representatives of SKCs and told them that the proposal for outsourcing waste collection in Zone 3 was in early stages and will be finalised after due process and consultation.
Dr. Yadav also said that emphasis will be given to safeguard livelihoods of existing sanitation workers and till the proposal is finalised, existing system will continue.
After follow-up meeting with JMC Commissioner, all sanitation workers called off their strike and resumed working in various Wards.
Earlier the ‘Kaam Choro Hartal’ had put the normal life out of gear and litter was seen at many places in the city.
The garbage collecting autos were also not seen in the streets today.
Rinku Gill, president of SKCs of JMC informed that JMC Commissioner has assured them to send the file of 600 candidates to Civil Secretariat.
It is pertinent to mention here that these 600 candidates had appeared for interviews against the vacancies in JMC but their selection list has not been released so far.
The SKCs were on protest against the outsourcing of sanitation and cleanliness works in Zone 3 of JMC to some private company.
They were claiming that outsourcing will badly affect their jobs as the private company concerned will engage its own people in cleanliness and sanitation of the city.
