JAMMU, Dec 1: Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) today held a protest demonstration against the CAPD Ministry for increasing the rates of ‘atta’ and rice on Government ration depots.
Addressing the protesters, JWAM president, Sunil Dimple alleged the total failure of the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Security Bill (FSB) in the State, stating that people are not getting ration under this scheme.
He said that the CAPD Minister, Zulfkar Ali has unilaterally increased the rates of the atta, rice, sugar in the ration depots without any approval of the cabinet while FCI is giving ration at the old rates to the CAPD department.
“The Government has increased the price of atta and rice in the ration depots even than the people are not getting the same for last three months”, Dimple said, adding, poor people are suffering badly, as they cannot afford to purchase the atta and rice from open market.
He said that BJP MLAs, MPs and MLCs made mockery of the BPL people by remaining mum during the cabinet approval to the decreasing quota of kerosene oil and to increase in the rates of the ration without the cabinet decision.
Dimple demanded to increase the kerosene oil on per ration card to 30 litres per month and sugar 20 kg per month per family. He further demanded the State and Central Government to exempt the sale tax and VAT on the sale of the diesel, petrol, LPG gas and the kerosene oil.
