JAMMU, Oct 13: Continuing its mission to promote vascular surgery awareness and advancement in the Jammu region, the Jammu Vascular Society (JVS) today organized a scientific session to commemorate World Thrombosis Day 2025.
The theme for this year’s World Thrombosis Day, “From Head to Toe – Take Control,” underscored the importance of recognizing, preventing, and managing thrombosis in all forms.
The session brought together leading specialists from Jammu and across India for in-depth discussions and presentations on ileofemoral deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a serious complication of venous thromboembolism (VTE).
The scientific meeting was chaired by Prof Dr Mohan Lal, senior Cardiologist, and moderated by Dr Gurjit Singh, Senior CTV Surgeon.
The highlight of the event was the keynote lecture delivered by Dr V S Bedi, Chairman, Institute of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.
Dr Bedi elaborated on the latest interventional approaches for managing ileofemoral DVT, discussing the indications, timing and rapidly evolving techniques such as mechanical thrombectomy and venous stenting.
He also showcased advanced thrombectomy systems and venous stent technologies for treating DVT and venous stenosis.
Dr Arvind Kohli, Convenor of the JVS, extended gratitude to all panelists, speakers, and attendees for their valuable contributions.
Emphasizing the need for heightened awareness, Dr. Kohli remarked, “Thrombosis is a silent killer – one in four people worldwide die from conditions caused by it. It is vital to remain vigilant and proactive in its prevention.”
He further highlighted the rapid advancements in the field, including newer oral anticoagulants that are more effective and patient-friendly, as well as cutting-edge vascular interventions like mechanical thrombectomy (AngioJet), powerful clot-busting systems that can significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce morbidity.
Dr Kohli also acknowledged Rohan and Abhishek from Bayer for their support in facilitating the academic session.
The event reaffirmed the Jammu Vascular Society’s commitment to continuing education, innovation, and collaboration in tackling vascular health challenges in the region.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion on diagnostic and management strategies, where participants shared their clinical insights and experiences.
Among other who attended the event included Dr Sushil Sharma, HOD Cardiology, along with prominent members of the Jammu Vascular Society including Dr Noor Ali, Dr Ishtayak Ahmad Mir, Dr Rahul Gupta (Pulmonologist), Dr Shyam Singh, Dr Mohit Arora, Dr Vivek Gandotra, Dr Javed Bandey, Dr Rouf Gul, Dr Bhumika Gupta, Dr Anil Sharma (Cardiologist), Dr Vinod Bhan, Dr Romil (NH Katra), Dr Sartaj Guroo (AIIMS Jammu), Dr Sohan Lal (Radiologist) and Dr Arun Dhotra, besides postgraduate students from the Cardiology Department.
