JAMMU, July 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police today apprehended a juvenile in the Pacca Danga area for possessing ten rolls of banned nylon thread, commonly known as Gattu, in violation of the District Magistrate’s order.
A police official said a team from Police Station Pacca Danga spotted a suspicious person near a motorcycle in Tange Vali Gali.
On noticing the police, he said, the individual attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
A search of his bag led to the recovery of ten rolls of the prohibited Chinese nylon thread, he said.
The possession and use of such thread is strictly banned under the District Magistrate Jammu’s order due to its hazardous nature.
Accordingly, the police official said, the accused was booked in case FIR number 73/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) registered at Police Station Pacca Danga.
He said the nylon thread in question is made of synthetic fibre and coated with glass powder, making it extremely dangerous.
“It poses serious risks to humans and animals, particularly birds, and has been responsible for many injuries and even fatalities during kite flying, especially among two-wheeler riders and pedestrians,” the police official said.
“As the accused is a juvenile, his identity has been withheld in accordance with legal guidelines,” added the police official.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged the public to refrain from using banned items like Chinese nylon thread.
