Justice Sikri to be Punjab, Haryana High Court Chief Justice

NEW DELHI, July 28:
Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri will be the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Sikri, will soon take over his new assignment.
The Supreme Court collegium has cleared his name and warrant of appointment is expected to be received by the Punjab and Haryana High Court after being signed by the President. The entire process is expected to take about a fortnight.
Initially, the name of Justice Bimala Prasad Das of the Orissa High Court was considered for the position. As per information Justice Das was not too keen to relocate due to his impending retirement upon attaining the age of superannuation. Justice Sikri replaces Justice Ranjan Gogoi, elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court in April this year.
In the absence of a regular Chief Justice since Justice Gogoi’s elevation to Supreme Court, Justice Jasbir Singh has been acting as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Sikri had taken took over the charge of Delhi High Court as Acting Chief Justice in October last year, following the elevation of the previous Chief Justice, Dipak Misra, as a judge of the Supreme Court.
Justice Sikri was named as one of the 50 most distinguished persons in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the world in a survey conducted by MIPA(Managing IP Association)
The seniormost judge of the Delhi High Court, Justice Sikri was enrolled in the bar in 1977 and practiced as a lawyer for many years, designated as a senior advocate in 1997, and was appointed as a judge in Delhi High Court wef July 7, 1999. (UNI)
