KATHUA, April 4: A legal literacy event marked by awareness and civic engagement was organized at Jammu Sanskriti School, Kathua, where the Legal Literacy Club was formally inaugurated today to promote legal awareness among students.
The programme was attended by prominent dignitaries including Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority (JKLSA); Shazia Tabassum, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority; Jatinder Singh Jamwal, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority and Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kathua; Urvashi R Bharghav, Secretary Judge, DLSA Kathua; Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua; and Y C Katoch, president, Bar Association Kathua.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Sanjeev Kumar emphasized the importance of legal literacy, stating that awareness of rights must go hand in hand with the understanding of duties. He highlighted discipline, accountability and ethical conduct as key pillars of justice, urging students to become responsible and informed citizens.
The event featured a series of activities including a pledge, keynote addresses, a ‘nukkad-natak’ and cultural performances, all aimed at spreading awareness about legal rights and responsibilities.
On the occasion, the School also released its magazine “Anugoonj”, showcasing students’ creative and intellectual pursuits. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the beginning of an initiative focused on fostering legal consciousness among young learners.
