SRINAGAR July 14: Scores of candidates who have qualified for the post of Junior Librarian in the Department of Culture today protested against the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) for demanding obsolete degrees from the candidates.
The applicants gathered at Partap Park, Press Enclave here and raised slogans against Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) slogans for seeking diplomas that had already been rendered obsolete and abandoned by the Universities of Kashmir and Jammu in 1983.
The applicants claimed that JKSSB had stated that candidates did not possess a certificate in Library Sciences, despite an announcement stating that individuals with equivalent degrees should be taken into consideration. “We have been waiting for our final selection list since all of the formalities were completed five months ago, but now they are requesting outdated degrees, which is grave,” an applicant said.

The candidates informed that JKSSB advertised 48 posts of Junior Librarian (24 for Jammu and 24 for Kashmir Division) vide notification No. 04 of 2020. The minimum qualification after graduation for the post was a certificate course in Library Science. “Since the certificate course was just a 6-month diploma course, many of the graduates and post-graduates in Library Sciences applied for the post and many of them qualified as well,” a candidate said.
According to the candidates, the Cultural Department further confirmed that BLIB and BLIS are acceptable qualifications for the position in response to the representation of the applicants. The candidates then showed up for the CBT exam that the JKSSB held on November 2, 2021, and no such impediment was indicated during the exams.
“Everything was done in a straightforward manner, but they have now requested that we only give the C-LIS people consideration. We want the most deserving candidates, regardless of their qualifications, to be given consideration, regardless of whether they hold a BLIS, MLIS, or another degree in library science,” a candidate said.
