JAMMU, Apr 15: Demanding fool-proof security cover to the doctors as assured by the Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din, the Junior Doctors working in Government Medical College (GMC) and Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospitals continued their strike for the second consecutive day.
The junior doctors decided to continue their strike and the decision to resume their duties will be taken in the meeting to be held tomorrow with the Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, sources told the Excelsior.
Due to the strike by the junior doctors including, Registrars, Postgraduates, House Residents and Interns working in GMC and SMGS hospital, the work in the OPDs and different departments including Radiology Department, Gynecology Department, Medicine, Ultra Sound, CT Scan etc, remained paralyzed.
Sensing the situation, the attendants of the patients coming from the far-flung areas of the State moved towards Sarwal and Gandhi Nagar Hospitals. Besides many of them admitted in the GMC and SMGS Hospitals, were shifted by their kin to some private clinics, sources added.
During the day, the junior doctors also held a meeting with the Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Wasiq and submitted memorandum of demands including adequate security cover for the doctors working in emergency wing and other departments of both the hospital, limitation of attendants in the emergency wing and introduction of zero tolerance policy in the hospital, sources said.
