JAMMU, July 18: Junior doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu called off their indefinite strike this evening following the arrest of the woman attendant who had allegedly assaulted two female doctors. The strike, which had crippled healthcare services since Tuesday afternoon, was withdrawn after the assailant was taken into custody by Bakshi Nagar Police.

In a press conference held on campus, Dr Sandeep Singh, president of Resident Doctors Association (RDA), GMC Jammu, confirmed that the strike was formally called off and all resident doctors resumed duties from 4 PM onwards. “We thank the administration and police for swift action. Our primary demand has been met, and we are back to serve patients,” he said.
The protest began after Dr Aayushi and Dr Ruchika were physically attacked by the attendant of a deceased patient. The incident, caught on CCTV, led to a complete suspension of OPD, in-patient and emergency services by the junior doctors.
GMC administration had earlier deployed faculty and consultants to manage critical care, and also issued an official clarification regarding the patient’s prior medical condition. With the doctors back at work, services have now returned to normal.
