JU scholars attend national symposium on mushroom

JAMMU, Jan 1: Research Scholars of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, participated and presented their work in two-day National Symposium on “Mushroom for Medicinal Value and Nutritional Security under Changing Climatic Conditions”, held at Solan (Himachal Pradesh).
This prestigious national congregation was jointly organized by Department of Plant Pathology, Dr  Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni (Solan) and Indian Mushroom Growers Association, Solan and supported by Directorate of Mushroom Research, Chambaghat (HP). The symposium was attended by more than 130 delegates from all across the country.
A team of research scholars comprising of Dr  Sanjeev Kumar,  Dimple Gupta,  Harpreet Kour,  Satvinder Kour,  Rigzin Yangdol,  Pratibha Lalotra and Suchita Sharma led by Prof  Yash Pal Sharma, participated and made presentations on the Taxonomy and Mushroom Diversity of Jammu and Kashmir, their nutritional attributes, ethnomycology and post-harvest deterioration of some of the commercially important mushrooms.
During the symposium,  Dimple Gupta was awarded the best poster presentation prize for her work on post-harvest spoilage of mushrooms.
