JAMMU, Nov 8: The Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association held its meeting here today and strongly demanded implementation of reservation in promotion for SCs and STs in services as the Union Government has already passed a legislation to this effect.
Association members said that the main objective of providing reservation to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in civil posts and services of the Government is not just to give job to some persons belonging to these communities and thereby increase their representation in the services but to uplift these people socially and educationally and to keep some place for them in the society.
With this object, the chief architect of the Constitution of India Dr B R Ambedkar had kept the constitutional provision of reservation for these communities, they added.
