JAMMU, Oct 13: Two research scholars from the Department of Geology, University of Jammu — Sumeet Singh and Shifali Chib — have brought laurels to the institution by winning the Best Oral Presentation Award, securing first and third positions, respectively, at the International Conference on Geodynamic Evolution of Himalaya: Crustal Architecture, Climate, Resources and Disaster (GEH-2025).
The conference, held from 6–8 October 2025 at Kumaun University, Nainital, brought together leading geoscientists, researchers, and academicians from across India and abroad to deliberate on the complex and evolving geology of the Himalayan region.
Sumeet Singh’s award-winning presentation focused on the geodynamics of forearc sediments in Ladakh during the Late Cretaceous, while Shifali Chib’s study explored the geotechnical and geophysical aspects of the Sukha Nala landslide in Kathua district. Both papers showcased in-depth analysis, innovative methodologies, and a clear understanding of the geodynamic and hazard processes shaping the Himalaya. The expert panel commended their work for its scientific rigour, clarity, and contemporary relevance.
The scholars credited their mentors — Prof Sundeep Pandita (supervisor of Sumeet Singh) and Dr Yudhbir Singh (supervisor of Shifali Chib) — for their invaluable guidance, encouragement, and insightful suggestions that shaped their research.
