JAMMU, May 4: In a major step towards integrating experiential learning into undergraduate education, the University of Jammu, in collaboration with iHub DivyaSampark, IIT Roorkee, and Cyber Intelligence Global LLP, organized its first-ever hands-on cyber forensics workshop for the students enrolled in the innovative Design Your Degree (DYD) program.
Held at the Skill, Incubation, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SIIEDC), the two-day workshop marked a pioneering initiative in bringing digital forensics training to the undergraduate level.
The workshop, conceptualized as part of the broader academic reforms led by Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor JU, aligns with his vision of embedding skill-based and real-world learning into higher education.
Convened by Prof Alka Sharma, Director, SIIEDC, and coordinated by Dr Jatinder Manhas, Associate Director, SIIEDC, the workshop included expert sessions conducted by Vishu Datt, Director, Cyber Intelligence Global LLP, New Delhi. He guided students through the essential concepts of digital evidence collection, forensic tools and technologies, cybercrime investigation protocols, and the fundamentals of cyber law. The sessions combined interactive lectures with real-time demonstrations, allowing students to experience the complexities and nuances of digital investigations firsthand.
The students enthusiastically engaged in practical exercises replicating real-world cybercrime scenarios. The initiative not only provided a unique academic experience but also bridged the gap between classroom knowledge and industry demands.
The workshop was attended by Design Your Degree faculty members including Prof. K S Charak, Prof Anil Gupta, Prof Sadaf Shah, Dr Shallu Sehgal, Dr Sandeep Arya, Dr Harish Chander Dutt, Dr Chinmoyee Maharana, Dr Sunil Bhaugal, Dr Ripu Daman, Dr Sandeep Singh, Dr Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr Sarika Verma, and Dr Manish Kumar.
The successful execution of the workshop was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Research Assistant Mohsin Hassan, and Ph D scholars Ayushi Kotwal, Renu Sambyal, Marzia, and Rahul Sharma, who ensured the smooth coordination and management of the event.
