JAMMU, Dec 20: In an initiative to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, the 5th-semester students of The Law School undertook an educational visit to the Model Police Station Gandhinagar, Jammu.
The students received comprehensive insights into the daily operations of a police station, the procedural intricacies of criminal investigations, and the pivotal role of technology through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS). A dedicated session was also conducted on the substantial changes and implications introduced by the new criminal laws, especially BNSS & BSA, providing the students with a forward-looking perspective on the legal framework.
The highlight of the visit was an enlightening and motivational interaction with Dr Ajay Sharma, Superintendent of Police (SP), South Jammu. He eloquently elaborated on the critical distinction between ‘law’ and ‘justice’, urging the students to internalize this difference as future pillars of the legal system. He emphasized upon the transformative role young, ethically grounded lawyers can play in strengthening the criminal justice system, encouraging them to be agents of fair play and reform. His interaction was notably augmented by SDPO South, Kuljeet Singh, who supplemented the discussion with valuable operational insights and field experiences.
The visit was held under the guidance of Prof Seema Rohmetra, Director, The Law School, and meticulosly corrdinated by Dr Monica Narang, Associate Professor, The Law School, in collaboration with Jaipaul Sharma, SHO Gandhinagar, Jammu. The success of the program was further bolstered by the active involvement of police personnel who facilitated the sessions, including Sub-Inspector Asma, Abhayveer Kotwal, Mohd. Ilyas, and ASI Taj Din. Their willingness to demonstrate procedures and engage with the students added immense practical value to the experience.
