JAMMU, Nov 19: The Law School, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the JKSPYM State Level Coordinating Agency (SLCA J&K), organized a one-day awareness workshop on “Drug Education & Information.”
The initiative was supported by the National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The program aimed to sensitize students about psychoactive substances, their harmful effects, categories of drugs, and effective preventive strategies.
In her welcome address, Prof Seema Rohmetra, Director of The Law School, commended the efforts of SLCA J&K in spearheading such a timely initiative. She emphasized the growing vulnerability of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir to drug-related challenges and underscored the urgent need for sustained awareness programs.
The workshop witnessed active participation from approximately 100 students. The event commenced with an introduction to the JKSPYM organisation and the role of the State Level Coordinating Agency, followed by an overview of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) campaign, presented by Pallavi Singh, Program Director, SLCA J&K.
Dr Vinay Kumar, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at the Central University of Jammu, delivered an insightful presentation on “Drugs and Drug Addiction,” utilising visual aids to enhance understanding. This was followed by a session on the NDPS Act by Advocate Kapil Sharma from the High Court of Jammu, who elaborated on the legal framework surrounding narcotic substances.
Interactive segments, including quizzes, brainstorming exercises, and student engagement activities, enriched the program. Rohit Abrol further guided students on how they can become proactive stakeholders in combating the menace of drug abuse.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Kimi Padhiar, SLCA official.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr Mrinalini Atrey, whose efforts ensured the smooth execution of the program and meaningful engagement through the workshop.
