JU launches hands-on training-cum-workshop on Cyanobacteria

JAMMU, Aug 22: A two-day hands-on training-cum-workshop on “Cyanobacteria: Culture Techniques and Applications” was inaugurated today in the Department of Botany, University of Jammu under the aegis of the Botanical Club.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies, who was the chief guest on the occasion. In her inaugural address, Prof. Rohmetra emphasized the importance of such trainings in shaping future research for societal benefit and capacity building. She highlighted that technical training is vital for meaningful research, sustainability and skill enhancement, aligning with the national vision of “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, introduced the workshop’s resource person, Dr. O N Tiwari, Principal Scientist, Microbiology Division, ICAR-IARI. He lauded Dr Tiwari’s contributions to cyanobacterial research and discussed their applications in biofertilizers, biotechnology and climate change indicators.
Prof. Susheel Verma, Head, Department of Botany and Convener of the workshop, welcomed participants and highlighted the workshop’s relevance in addressing agricultural and environmental challenges.
Attendees included scholars from University of Jammu, Central University of Jammu, Cluster University of Jammu and affiliated colleges. The workshop features lectures and hands-on training in culturing, isolation, maintenance, and applications of cyanobacteria.
Among other dignitaries present were Prof. Namrata Sharma, Prof. Veenu Kaul, Dr. Sikander, Dr. Geeta, Dr. H C Dutt, Dr. Skarma Nonzom, Dr. Abhishek and Dr. Komal, who extended their best wishes.
