JAMMU, Dec 11: The Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav was celebrated today at the University of Jammu and IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, with much enthusiasm.
Translation Club, Utsaah Consortium in collaboration with the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, celebrated Bharatiya Bahu Bhasha Diwas on the theme ‘Jammuriyat’.
The event was graced by Shruti Awasthi, Director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), as the chief guest and was presided over by Prof Garima Gupta, Head of the Journalism and Media Studies Department, alongside Prof Dushyant Kumar Rai, Dr Pardeep Singh Bali, Kumerjit Chajgotra, Ramiyan Bhardwaj and students from various departments.
Prof Garima Gupta emphasized the University’s commitment to preserving India’s linguistic traditions while Shruti Awasthi underlined the vital role of linguistic diversity in promoting national unity and cultural pride.
The event also featured an array of performances, including songs, dances, and poetry recitals in multiple languages spoken in Jammu and Kashmir, such as Dogri, Urdu, Punjabi, Gojri, Pogli, and Sherazi. Ramiyan Bhardwaj hosted the programme, which concluded with a collective pledge to promote and preserve India’s linguistic heritage.
At the IGNOU Regional Centre Centre Srinagar, the event was celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of esteemed Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, popularly known as Mahakavi Bharathi.
The event began with a short inaugural session wherein the Regional Director Dr A H Rizvi along with key dignitaries emphasized the importance of language in shaping culture, unity, identity, and national integrity of Swatantra Bharat. Presentations on the preservation of regional languages were conducted by the eminent guests from University of Kashmir, Central University of Kashmir, Govt Degree Colleges and other social activist forums who were present on the occasion.
These sessions included deliberations on how languages like Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi, Dogri, Gojri, Punjabi, Malayalam and others are being preserved in the digital age and the role of educational institutions in promoting linguistic diversity.
The chief guest was Prof Chinnappan Baskar from Central University of Kashmir who is from Tamil Nadu. He talked about happy multicultural society in India and recited poems in Tamil language. Other dignitaries, including Dr Harpal Singh, Dr Younus Ahmad, Ravinder Kour, Tasleem, Gulshan Badri, Sagar Nazir from Kashmir University, and cultural activists shared their experience and recited poetry
