JAMMU, Apr 2: The Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, conducted a two-day workshop on “Business Simulation and Start-Up Ecosystem”, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI).
The workshop, organized under the Entrepreneurship and New Ventures course for M Com Semester II in alignment with the National Education Policy, aimed to provide students with practical exposure to real-world business environments and enhance their understanding of startup ecosystems.
During the second day, experts from the JKEDI startup team, namely Irtif Mehraj, Zaid Ali Dar, and Faheem Ul Din Malik, emphasized advanced aspects of startup development and ecosystem support. Key areas covered included business planning and financial management, problem-solving and strategic decision-making through simulations, and case-based discussions on startup success and challenges.
Participants engaged in group activities and interactive sessions, enhancing their analytical thinking and collaborative skills. The hands-on approach helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The JKEDI team also elaborated on their broader mission to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the region.
The key agendas highlighted included creating awareness about entrepreneurial opportunities across various sectors, guiding students on the appropriate authorities and regulatory bodies to approach for different types of businesses, providing information on Government incentives, subsidies, and schemes designed to promote new ventures, and offering mentorship, training, and incubation support for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Earlier, Prof Hardeep Chahal emphasized the significance of fostering strong academia-industry collaboration.
The first day of the workshop focused on building foundational knowledge of entrepreneurship and business dynamics. Expert speakers Dr Amit Sharma, Dr Sameer Bhat, Veer Pratap Singh Slathia, and Ashraf Choudhary from JKEDI introduced participants to the fundamentals of starting and managing a business. Prof Jeevan Jyoti, Head of the Department, stated that integrating practical exposure with academic learning equips students with the confidence and skills required to succeed in today’s competitive startup environment.
The workshop concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr Harleen Kaur.
