JAMMU, Sept 24: The University of Jammu, through its Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, continues to promote competitive spirit and youth engagement by organizing various Inter-Collegiate Sports Tournaments for the session 2025–26. The Kabaddi (Women), Gatka (Men & Women) and Basketball (Men & Women) tournaments witnessed exciting contests, showcasing the athleticism, skill, and team spirit of the participants.
On Day 2 of the Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi (Women) Tournament, thrilling matches were played with great enthusiasm and strategic game play. GCW Udhampur defeated GDC Gaghwal by 16 points, while GDC Billawar beat GDC Kathua by 19 points. GCW Parade emerged victorious over GDC Ramgarh with a 10-point lead and PG Department JU overcame GDC Reasi by 11 points. The matches were conducted under the supervision of Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, with a technical panel comprising Anil Sharma, Ajay Gupta, Dheeraj Sharma, Keshav Singh, Amandeep Singh and Gagan Kumar.
In the Inter-Collegiate Gatka Championship, 12 teams participated in both men’s and women’s categories. In the men’s section, Sehajveer Singh (PG Deptt. JU) clinched gold in the Parri Stick Individual event, followed by Hardeep Singh (GDC R S Pura) with silver. Bhavneek Singh (Dogra Degree College) and Baljeet Singh (GDC Marh) won the bronze medals. In the Single Stick Individual event, Kanavjot Singh (GDC Kathua) won gold, Gagandeep Singh (GDC Kunjwani) took silver and Ramanjot Singh (Dogra Degree College) along with Jaideep Singh (GDC R S Pura) secured the bronze medals. GDC Kathua also won gold in the Single Stick Team event, followed by Dogra Degree College (silver), GDC Kunjwani (1st bronze) and GDC R S Pura (2nd bronze) and also lifted the overall men’s trophy with 15 points. In the women’s section, Payal Devi (Dogra Degree College) won gold, Namanjot Kour (GDC Kathua) took silver, while Mantasha Jan (GDC Kunjwani) and Nazish Akhter (PG Deptt. JU) secured bronze. Dogra Degree College won the overall women’s trophy with 5 points.
In the Basketball Tournament, PG Department Jammu University beat GMC Jammu (40–12), GDC Udhampur beat Dogra Law College (41–06), Dogra Degree College beat GCET Jammu (31–27), GDC Kathua beat GDC Akhnoor (23–0), MIET College edged past ASCOMS Jammu (29–27) and GDC Kunjwani beat GMC Kathua (40–23) in the men’s section. In the women’s section, GDC Kathua defeated GCW Udhampur (12–0). All tournaments reflected excellent discipline, fair play and organizational brilliance under the leadership of Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba.
