JAMMU, Nov 28: The Department of English, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Prof D K Rampal Memorial Trust, today organised the D K Rampal Memorial lecture on the theme “Language as Discourse: Decoding Complex Contours of Literary Representation.”
The event honoured the academic legacy of Prof D K Rampal and aimed to encourage deeper discussion on language, ideology and discourse in contemporary scholarship.
Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
In her address, she highlighted Prof Rampal’s contributions as a scholar and administrator and said his work continues to guide the University’s academic environment.
She stressed the importance of principled leadership and urged students to pursue their goals with integrity and a sense of service.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof Roshan Lal Sharma, Head, Department of English, and Dean, Languages, Central University of Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking on “Language as Discourse”, he discussed how language, ideology and discourse shape human understanding and social reality.
He explained that discourse functions as a system through which knowledge and power relations are created and interpreted.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion involving faculty members, scholars and students.
Prof R D Sharma presented an exposition on the genesis and vision of the Prof D K Rampal Memorial Trust, highlighting its commitment to promoting academic excellence.
Earlier, Prof Ravinder Singh, Head, Department of English, University of Jammu, welcomed the gathering and introduced the dignitaries.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr Pallavi Gupta and Dr Simrajyot Kour, Assistant Professors, Department of English. Prof Monika Chaddha presented the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by several eminent academicians, including Prof Satnam Kour, Former Head, Department of English; Prof Vinay Chauhan, Director, The Business School; Prof Garima Gupta, Head, Department of Journalism; Dr Shubhnandan Singh Jamwal; Dr Vinay Rampal, renowned physician; and Dr Hari Dutt Sharma, besides research scholars and students from various departments.
