The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof OP Sharma, who warmly greeted the distinguished guests, dignitaries, and attendees. This was followed by a keynote address by Resham Singh Jamwal, who highlighted the historical evolution of Jammu & Kashmir, its contribution to the nation, and the role of its people in shaping its legacy.
M S Katoch while addressing the gathering said that since inception of the erstwhile J&K state no one bothered to celebrate this historic day of importance. We are astonished to see that the public has almost forgotten that when and how this beautiful state came into existence. JPPF started celebrating this day since last ten years i.e. 2015 and trying to bring awareness among the masses about the formation of Jammu and Kashmir State. The JPPF took an initiative in 2010 of celebrating accession day as well on October 26 every year and now the accession day is celebrated in a big way not only in the state but outside the state too.
He further added that March 16, is very important day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir when Maharaja Gulab Singh on this day in 1846 purchased Kashmir from Britishers under Amritsar Treaty after paying 75 lakhs and became the first/founder Maharaja of entire Jammu and Kashmir state, and thereafter the boundaries of J&K were extended by Gen Zorawar Singh till China and Afghanistan border on 16th March 1846.
On this occasion several individuals contributing towards the social, educational, and cultural upliftment of J&K were felicitated. The program was concluded with vote of thanks by Ram Rattan Sharma.
The distinguished members who were honored and present in the meeting were, K B Jandial, Nirmal Kotwal, Baldev Singh, Gitan Singh, Satpal Sharma, Jia Lal, Pritam Sharma, Pawan Gupta and others.
