JAMMU, Aug 24: Jammu Province Bachao Manch (JPBM) has expressed concern over the damage caused by the recent deluge across the Jammu region.
In a press conference here today former Legislator and Chairman JBM, Ashok Sharma said this tragedy underscores the urgent need for a paradigm shift in our approach to disaster management.
He called upon the Union Government and J&K Government to recognize gravity of the situation and long-term sufferings of the people.
Ashok Sharma also said that time has come for a comprehensive, sustainable and permanent solution to this recurring crisis and demanded immediate initiation of the Chenab Basin Mega Project and Micro Projects on an Integrated Catchment Area Management basis.
He also stressed upon the strategic construction of reservoirs and barrages along Chenab River and its tributaries which would allow for the controlled discharge of water, preventing devastating overflows that are currently plaguing the region.
Kuldeep Sharma, R.C Raju, P.L Sharma, Col. Bana Ram (retd) and others were also present in the press conference.
