Jora reviews progress of UDD, Urban Local Bodies programmes

JAMMU, Jan 22: A meeting of high level officers of different wings of Urban Development Department and Urban Local Bodies was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora, here today.
The meeting discussed threadbare various schemes being executed in twin Capitals of the State and other cities.
Among others Commissioner-Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department, Jeet Lal Gupta, Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Irfan Yaseen, ,Vice Chairman, SDA, Kh.Farooq Renzushah, Vice Chairman, JDA, Sarita Chouhan, Director Urban Local Bodies, Jammu, F.C Bhagat, Director , Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir, S.A. Laharwal, Chief Engineer, UEED, CEO, JUDA, Dr. Shubra Sharma, CEO, UADAK, Srinagar, Showkat Ahmed, SMC, Commissioner, G.N.Qasba, JMC Commissioner, K.L Khujaria, Joint Director (P&S) Housing and Urban Development, P.S Kakroo, G.M SUIDA,(Housing) H.R Bhagat and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The Minister exhorted upon the officers to ensure that all programmes being executed under their respective wings are done within the specified timeframe. He asked them to conduct regular site visits and make sure that quality and quantity of works is maintained at all levels.
The Vice Chairman, LAWADA, briefed the Minister about the progress of various ongoing schemes launched by the Central and State Governments for cleaning and preservation of world famous Dal Lake through a power point presentation. He said that under Sewerage and Sewage treatment, STPs Hazratbal, Habak and Laa (Nishat) plants have been made operational while 90 percent work on Brari Numbal STP has also been completed. Besides, Nallah Amir Khan would be commissioned during the current month.
Regarding resettlement of Dal dwellers, Rs. 356 crore have been sanctioned by the Planning Commission for acquisition of land while Rs.416 crore have been earmarked for establishment of colony for their resettlement at Rakhi-i- Arth under the State Plan and JNNURM. It was also told that 250 plots have already been allotted and till 50 families have been shifted and rehabilitated.
On the occasion, the Commissioner, SMC, informed that 205 raids have been conducted and 548 qtls of polythene was seized recovering Rs. 2.78 lakh from the defaulters during 2012-13. He said that 11260 birth and 4047 death certificates have been issued from Ist January to ending December 2012 realizing Rs.11.09 lakh as revenue.
The Minister reviewed the schemes under JNNURM and it was told that 108 projects under UIG, Urban Transport, UIDSSMT, BSUP and IHSDP programmes have been taken up. He also had a detailed review of CCDP scheme.
