Joint convention of trade unions organised

JAMMU, Jan 25: A joint one day convention of Trade Unions and mass organisations was held here, today to deliberate upon the anti workers and corporate labour codes notified by the Government of India on November 21 last year which were to be implemented from First April this year.
.The convention was held in presence of MLA and State president CITU, M Y Tarigami which was held under the banner of CITU. It witnessed the participation of representatives from various trade unions and workers organisations including Border Roads Casual Paid Workers Union, J&K, Nirman Mazdoor Union Jammu, Bhawan Nirman Kamgar Union, Kathua, ASHA Workers Union Jammu, All J&K Gas and Oil Tanker Drivers Union Jammu, NHM Association J&K, Kashmir Construction Workers Union, all affiliated to CITU, Northern Railway Men’s Union, Jammu, (HMS), LIC Employees Association, Northern Zone, J&K, Kisan Tehreek and Jammu & Kashmir Apple Growers Union Srinagar.
The speakers included Om Parkash, working president, Jagdish Sharma, general secretary, Liaquat Ali vice president, A R Pandit, secretary, Sunita Bhagat, secretary, of the CITU State Committee, and other prominent trade Union leaders, Rajesh Sharma, H S Kranti, and Rohit Seth. The speakers strongly criticised the labour codes, terming them anti worker , anti poor, and pro corporate which undermines hard won labour rights weaken collective bargaining and make retrenchment , layoffs and closures easier for employers.
The convention unanimously resolved to participate in the ensuing All India general strike on February 12 and to launch an intensive predatory campaign for the mobilisation of workers and the common people to ensure mass participation in the strike against the anti workers labour policies of the Government.
In his address M Y Tarigami , president of CITU , State Committee and MLA appealed to all Central Trade Unions , irrespective of their affiliation to join the common platform of trade unions, in Jammu and Kashmir and make the forthcoming general strike a historic success.
