JAMMU, Dec 3: In a significant development, a substantial number of people, particularly Scheduled Tribe youth, enthusiastically joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of MP, Rajya Sabha, Gulam Ali Khatana and district president BJP Jammu South, Rekha Mahajan.
The joining took place at Booth Jan Samvad programme at Karyani Talab, Narwal-Bathindi and witnessed a surge in new members, highlighting the increasing popularity of the party among the Scheduled Tribe community.
Prominent among those who joined were Ashraf Choudhary Ashu, Rafiq Choudhary, Shokat Khan, Parvaz Choudhary, Azhar Choudhary, Ashiq Choudhary, Aslam Malik, Attar Kholi, Razak Choudhary, Alyas Choudhary and others.
Addressing the gathering, Gulam Ali Khatana emphasized the historical neglect faced by the Tribal population, especially the Gujjars and Bakerwals, by previous political regimes for the past 70 years. He asserted that political parties such as the Congress, National Conference (NC), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) exploited the Tribal population for vote bank politics without delivering substantial benefits.
Underlining the commitment of the BJP to the welfare of Tribals, MP Khatana highlighted the positive steps taken by the Narendra Modi led Government, including the provision of political reservations for the Tribal community. He expressed concern about the attempts by opposition parties to instigate the tribal community by questioning the reservation policy.
“We should demand welfare and progress for ourselves, but we should not impede others from receiving their due benefits,” said MP Khatana, urging the Tribal community to focus on their own development without hindering the progress of others. Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Prophet Mohammad, MP Khatana stressed the importance of helping neighbors and the poor rather than becoming obstacles in their path.
He said that during Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s rule of over nine years, many historical works have been done for development and welfare of different sections of the society.
Khatana said that a new chapter in the history of J&K was written when the special provision of Article 370 and 35A were abolished with the thumping majority in both the houses of the Parliament. This historic step mitigated the sufferings of the refugees, Valmiki Samaj and other sections.
He said that every booth has to be strengthened to ensure that the party registers victory by winning maximum votes of the area and gets chance to serve the people.
